Lots of blackcurrant and blackberry character here, together with refined, polished spicy notes. Medium- to full-bodied with a nicely controlled release of fruit and oak through the palate and long finish. Spot-on this vintage. Well done. Zagreus Reserve Mavrud

This pours deep purple-black. It has lifted almost overripe plummy-raisin and blackberry fruit nose that reminds me of vintage port. There is also violet florality and quite generous oak vanilla and spice. It is full bodied, dense, very smooth and sweet-edged, but amid all this fruit concentration, and alcohol heat and considerable twiggy tannin, the sweetness serves well. The length is excellent. Despite the intense summer heat that Bordeaux experienced in 2019, the red wines remain fresh and balanced. The season gave us ripe, structured wines that '... combine the textural creaminess of the 2009s with the vibrancy of the 2010s and the slightly linear construction of the 2014s' (Antonio Galloni, vinous.com, June 18, 2020). This example is floral, with bright red fruit and supple, polished tannins.

From grapes grown on the clay soils of this dry-farmed dry land of Cauquenes in the Maule Valley, this wine was harvested very early in the season and barrel-aged for 16 months. The fruit is obtained from just 8 rows growing in this wild landscape, and the wine is juice—a crisp, lively delight. Its aromas of blackcurrant, leather, tobacco and spices are very typical for the area. On the palate, the tannins are expressive and elegant. This is a very well-balanced wine with a reach and persistent finish

This wine can be aged for 10 years, or more according to the vintage.
